I feel the same way. And I always wonder: if they wanted to change R this much, why even use R? Why didn't they just write a whole new language? The only answer is, I think, to capitalize on the existing R community; i..e to poach the current user base. And that RStudio was already committed, in a business sense, to providing R solutions for a price. Not very seemly -- especially in an otherwise opensource community.
